The neighborhood near Eastern Point Beach and Avery Point in Groton CT

Homes for Sale in the Eastern Point Beach Area of Groton, CT

Why Do People Live here?
The area is a beautiful neighborhood of single family homes that is conveniently located between the Shennecossett Golf Course, the Thames River estuary, Long Island Sound and Bakers Cove. With all of that water nearby the summer breezes cool you down. It's not uncommon to see neighborhood kids playing in the streets, joggers, roller-bladers or bicyclists in this quaint little oasis. It's far enough from the main hustle and bustle of the city that residents don't feel like the big business centers are knocking on their door.

What's the Neighborhood Like?

The homes you would expect to find for sale in the neighborhood are generally going to range between 1500 and 2200 square feet. Most of the homes were originally built back in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Since then, many of the capes and ranch style homes have had updates and it's not uncommon to find ones that have extensive finished basements adding to the square footage of some of these great homes. The smallest homes in the neighborhood start with 3 bedrooms while the larger floor plans have a four bedroom layout with some models putting the master bedroom on the main floor. Most of the lots range between 1/4 acre and a 1/2 acre so there is plenty of room for people to get out and enjoy the beautiful southern New England weather.

What's Going on Nearby?

Lawrence & Memorial is a major hospital less than 5 miles from the neighborhood as well as just about every kind of conceivable shopping on Long Hill Road in Groton or across the river at Crystal Mall. Eastern Point Beach, the golf course, an Elk's Lodge, Shennecossett Yacht Club and Pine Island Marina are all within walking distance. So is the University of Connecticut at Avery Point.
In the evenings you will want to take a ride down to enjoy dinner at Paul's Pasta Shop on Thames Street overlooking the river. This place is an absolute staple in Groton. Being located along the river in a classic New England neighborhood, the setting is perfect for the restaurant. The minute you walk in the door the smells of pasta and garlic bread takeover your senses. The deli case is home to several of the pasta salads and fresh made pastas to buy and take home.
Puffins is also located on the Groton side of the Thames river, on Thames Street, and has a million dollar view. They are open for breakfast and lunch Monday - Saturday. The wait staff are people with special needs and they are a delight! Puffins has their own bakery so their sandwiches are all made with fresh bread. The sandwiches are wonderful, plentiful and extremely well priced! There's an outdoor deck for those sunny days. Go once, and you'll be sure to make it a regular stop!
